2024 Historic Autographs : YesterYear
YesterYear trading cards were released on February 21, 2024, by the
Historic Autograph & Card Company. The 72-card base set is available in
six different designs, each with four different color variations. Each card
design is serial numbered in different tiers of rarity (#/75, #/50, #/30,
#/10, #/5, #1/1). Each design is available in blue, green, red, and black
& white negative variants.
Each pack contains four base cards plus one 2019–21 NBA buyback card; or one base card, one NBA buyback, and a cut signature card. The odds of finding a cut signature card are approximately 1:8 packs.
Apollo 11 Commander Neil Armstrong is featured on base card #67. Armstrong is
pictured inside of the Lunar Module Eagle after the first lunar EVA on
July 20, 1969. The photograph was taken by Lunar Module pilot Edwin "Buzz"
Aldrin.
"Neil Alden Armstrong (1930–2012) was the first man to set foot on the moon on
July 21, 1969, when he said, "That's one small step for man, one giant leap
for mankind." Armstrong began his college education under the Holloway
Plan-free education in exchange for service in the Navy. He achieved half a
degree in aeronautical engineering from Purdue University, before he entered
the Korean War in 1951, flying a Grumman F9F Panther from the aircraft
carrier, USS Essex. After the war, he finished his degree and in 1962, he
joined NASA. On Mar. 16, 1966, Armstrong made his first journey into space on
the Gemini 8 mission. On July 16, 1969, Armstrong went into space again, on
the Apollo 11 mission, taking the first walk on the moon. Armstrong left NASA
in 1971 and taught Aerospace Engineering at the University of Cincinnati, went
to the North Pole, and served on the Rogers Commission, which investigated the
Challenger disaster. Armstrong's footprints on the moon will be there
for a million years–the moon has no wind to blow them away."
Card #72 depicts the first three African-American astronauts Ronald McNair, Guion Bluford, and Fred Gregory. NASA Astronaut Group 8 was announced on January 16, 1978.
"Guion Stewart Bluford Jr. (1942–present) was the first black person to fly in space. He was an astronaut on Challenger's third flight, August 30, 1983. He went on to fly in three more Space Shuttle flights, totaling 28 days in space. Bluford was born in Philadelphia, PA in 1942. Before his career at NASA, he received a B.S. degree in aerospace engineering from Pennsylvania State University. After graduating, Bluford trained as a fighter pilot and then flew 144 combat missions during the Vietnam War. From 1967 to 1972, he served as a T-38 flight instructor at Sheppard Air Force Base in Texas. He then received a master of science degree in aerospace engineering with distinction from the Air Force Institute of Technology, a doctor of philosophy degree in aerospace engineering with a minor in laser physics from the Air Force Institute of Technology in 1978. On leaving the Air Force and NASA in 1993, Bluford went on great success in the business sector. Bluford is currently the President of the Aerospace Technology Group, in Cleveland, Ohio."
