2009 Upper Deck 20th Anniversary Retrospective

Upper Deck 20th Anniversary Retrospective trading cards were distributed throughout 2009 by The Upper Deck Company. The 2,500-card base collection features athletes, celebrities, and events from 1989–2009. There are 500 subjects with 5 different text variations for each subject. Each base card has a CMYK printing plate #1/1.

20th Anniversary Retrospective base cards and memorabilia relics were randomly inserted in packs of 2009 Upper Deck Baseball and multi-sport releases including A Piece of History, First Edition, Goodwin Champions, Goudey, Icons, Spectrum, SPx, Sweet Spot, and Upper Deck X.

The Space Shuttle Atlantis mission STS-71 docked with the Russian space station Mir for the first time on June 29, 1995.

Jet Propulsion Laboratory engineer Howard Eisen is pictured with a full-scale model of the Mars Pathfinder rover. The photograph was taken by Bruce Weaver at the Kennedy Space Center on November 30, 1996. The Mars Pathfinder mission launched on December 4, 1996. Howard Eisen was appointed as JPL Chief Engineer on April 11, 2024.

The Mars Pathfinder rover Sojourner is pictured on the surface of Mars. Sojourner is the first vehicle to traverse the surface of another planet. The six-wheeled rover deployed on July 5, 1997. NASA received the last signal from Sojourner on October 7, 1997.

Lunar Prospector was launched on January 7, 1998. Lunar Prospector mapped the lunar surface and measured the gravity of the Moon. The spacecraft detected the first direct evidence of water ice in the lunar polar regions. On July, 31, 1999, Lunar Prospector was deliberately steered into Shoemaker crater near the lunar south pole.

The first International Space Station (ISS) modules Zarya and Unity are seen from Space Shuttle Endeavour. On December 6, 1998, The crew of STS-88 docked the Unity Node 1 to Zarya, providing the first Russian and American connection on the ISS.
