1963 G.P. Tea : Science in the 20th Century
Science in the 20th Century trading cards were issued in 1963 by George
Payne & Company, Ltd. of London. The illustrated 25-card collection
showcases contemporary technological advancements. One card was included with
packets of G.P. Tea in England. Each card measures approximately 1.375 x 2.625
inches (35 x 67 mm). A Science in the 20th Century collector album was
sold separately at grocers and by mail order from George Payne & Co.
The Science in the 20th Century collection was distributed in 1966 by
Amaran Tea, Bishops Stortford Dairy Farmers Ltd., Clover Dairies, and
Hitchman's Dairies Ltd.
"Space Capsule" depicts an early concept design of the Mercury spacecraft. "The Rocket" describes a Jupiter space launch vehicle lifting off from Cape Canaveral, Florida.
The Telstar communications satellite is featured on card #3. "Satellite" features the Ranger 1 spacecraft launched on August 23, 1961.
