1969 Commodex Limited : Operation Moon Bubble Gum
James Burke presents... Operation Moon was released in 1969 by Commodex
Limited in London. The 88-card series features official NASA photographs from
Project Mercury, Gemini, and Apollo. The wax wrapper illustration is based on a photograph of Mercury-Atlas 9 astronaut Gordon Cooper.
Each Operation Moon card measures approximately 2.3 x 3.1 inches (59 ×
78 mm). Each wax pack included a piece of bubble gum and a "Zak Stamp" that measures approximately 1.1 x 1.6 inches (28 x 40 mm). A premium astronaut
poster was available by mailing ten stamps and five pence to Commodex
Limited.
The back of each card contains a brief description and a facsimile signature of science historian James Burke. Burke hosted the BBC television series Tomorrow's World and served as the main reporter during the BBC Apollo 11 moon landing broadcast.

A 100-card expanded series was later distributed in the Netherlands by Monty Fabrieken, a gum manufacturer in Holland. Various Monty Fabrieken card titles are printed in Dutch and English. The card backs do not contain any text descriptions. Cards #1–88 form a large puzzle image of Mercury-Atlas 9 astronaut Gordon Cooper. The additional card backs #89–100 are blank.
