1960 L.M. Becker : Space Age Prize Package
Space Age Prize Package cards were released circa 1960 by the L.M.
Becker Company of Brillion, Wisconsin.
The American Card Catalog reference is R780-8. Each card measures
approximately 2.3 x 3.5 inches (59 x 99 mm). The series is copyrighted L.M.B.
Co.
Each Prize Package contains four surprises that include a trading card,
bubble gum, and small plastic toys. The paper envelopes were sold in counter
display boxes and dispensed from coin-operated vending machines. Various
Space Age cards can be cut and folded into displays and models.
The 25-card series features illustrations of the North American X-15
hypersonic research vehicle and the Boeing X-20 Dyna-Soar spaceplane concept.
The collection includes an early rotating space station design, first proposed
by Konstantin Tsiolkovsky in 1903. "Splashdown" depicts the water landing of a
Project Mercury spacecraft.
