1987 Weet-Bix : Aussie Kids in the Year 2000
Aussie Kids in the Year 2000 cards were issued in 1987 by the
Sanitarium Health Food Company in Australia. The 14-card collection was
distributed with packages of Weet-Bix breakfast cereals. The Aussie Kids in
the Year 2000 Gazette collector album was available by mail order for 75 cents
and 10 Weet-Bix tokens.
The series includes the launch of Soyuz 7K-TM No. 75 from the Baikonur Cosmodrome in Kazakhstan on July 15, 1975. The Apollo–Soyuz Test Project (ASTP) was the first international space mission. The Soyuz spacecraft carried Soviet cosmonauts Alexei Leonov and Valery Kubasov. On July 17, the spacecraft successfully docked with the Apollo CSM-111 module.
"The Soyuz rocket was used in the joint Apollo/Soyuz space programme.
Similar types of rockets are used to launch satellites."
Aussat is the first Australian national satellite system. The communication satellites are operated by Optus. Aussat A1 was deployed by Space Shuttle Discovery during STS-51-I on August 27, 1985.
"This is one of Aussat's stations. The tracking station keeps an
ever-watchful eye on Aussat to make sure it doesn't move. If it did move,
Aussat would not be able to transmit signals back down to Earth as
efficiently."
