1969 Liebig Serie 309 : Aerei
Liebig's Extract of Meat Company was established in London by Justus Freiherr
von Liebig in 1865. The company produced over 11,000 different advertising
trade cards worldwide from 1870–1975.
Liebig Serie 309: Aerei (Planes) cards were distributed in 1969 by
Compagnia Italiana Liebig S.p.A. of Milan. The
Sanguinetti Catalogue series number is 1834. The Aerei series was distributed in
six-card sets bound in a paper strap. The card text is printed in Italian. The
card backs advertise broth and risotto products from Liebig.
The Aerei series features concept illustrations of the Boeing X-20
Dyna-Soar spaceplane and Bell D-188A fighter jet. An artist rendering of the
X-15-1 (56-6670) experimental aircraft is depicted on card #5. NASA developed three of the experimental aircraft to investigate problems that pilots would encounter near the edge of space. The X-15-1 and
X-15-2 were first piloted by Scott Crossfield in 1959. The
X-15-1
is displayed in the Steven F. Udvar-Hazy Center at Dulles International Airport in Virginia.
